Rescue 🚨 Recap:
On Monday October 7th members of Alberni Valley Rescue Squad and Arrowsmith Search and Rescue regional Class D Fixed Line (CDFL) team were tasked by the Pacific Rim National Parks Visitor Safety Team to assist with the rescue of an injured hiker on the West Coast Trail.
The hiker had fallen and tumbled down a very steep embankment, landing only a few metres away from a cliff edge. The subject was initially located by the Parks Canada Visitor Safety Technicians who were able to communicate the location to the CDFL team.
The CDFL team with Airspan Helicopters inserted two techs via fixed line where they were met by the Parks Canada Visitor Safety Technicians who had already accessed the subject and rendered first aid. The hiker fortunately only appeared to have sustained a lower limb injury. The CDFL team flew the hiker to Port Renfrew to meet BC Ambulance and was subsequently transported to the nearest hospital.
Today the West Coast Trail is officially closed for the season and this was one of the last hikers of the season. The AVRS CDFL team has responded to multiple calls on the WCT. Additionally, AVRS has been tasked with two other calls in the Alberni Valley over the past 24 hours that were quickly resolved.
